Why wear a running cap on the trail?

Midday on a dirt road, not a tree in sight: this is exactly where a cap with a visor shows what it can do. The visor shades your eyes and forehead, so you run more relaxed and don't get blinded. When the sun sits low in the evening, the brim helps you see the ground better against the light. And in a light drizzle, the drops are more likely to land on the visor than in your face.

A running hat differs from an everyday cap mainly in weight and material. On long runs, what counts is that it stays light and lets air reach your head. For the trip to the gym, classic cotton works too.

Which cap suits your run?

For miles in the sun

The Running Cap is our model for women runners. The lightweight, breathable material keeps your head pleasantly cool, and the curved brim reliably protects you from the sun. The strap at the back is adjustable, and the size is one size fits all. You can get it in Blushed Rose and Nordic Blue, both shades that go well with many running outfits. If you're looking for a women's running cap, this is your starting point.

The MVA Performance Cap is built on the same idea: lightweight, breathable material, curved visor, adjustable closure. We list it as a men's running cap, and it comes in four colors: Dusty Blue, Marble Cream, Pale Pink and True Black. If you like running in matching looks, pair it with the women's model.

For the gym and the coffee afterward

Cotton feels soft and fits the post-workout look. These three sports caps are meant more for training and everyday wear than for the half marathon:

  • Signature Cap: The clean design with a subtle OACE logo and adjustable strap comes in Moonstone and True Black. It works as a women's sports cap and a men's cap alike.
  • Trust Cap: This cotton cap has subtle embroidery on the side and comes in Washed Dark Blue and Washed Matcha. It goes well with the Trust Sets.
  • Cracked Cap: It's made of durable cotton and has a classic fit plus an embroidered crack line. If you're a guy looking for a sports cap with character, go for Cracked Black.

Prefer to run without a visor? Then the Softline Headband keeps your hair out of your face and, thanks to its elastic material, stays secure with every move.

Light or dark: choosing a color for your running cap

In the sun, light fabrics heat up less than dark ones. For long summer runs, Marble Cream, Pale Pink or Blushed Rose are therefore a good choice. True Black and Nordic Blue look sportier and go with almost any running outfit.

A little trick for a cohesive outfit: pick up a tone from your shirt or shorts. A running cap in Dusty Blue with a dark shirt looks calm, while Pale Pink with black adds an accent.

How your running cap should fit

  1. Put on the cap and tighten the strap at the back until it doesn't wobble when you shake your head.
  2. Leave two fingers of space between the band and your head. If it is too tight, it starts to press after a few miles.
  3. Point the visor straight ahead. That way the shadow falls on both eyes.
  4. Test the fit with a short sprint before you start the long run.

With the right adjustment, you'll forget your running cap after the first few yards. That's exactly how it should be.

Complete your running outfit

The cap is on, now you just need the rest. For women runners there is women's running apparel with a matching running sports bra and a pair of women's running shorts for warm days. Men put together their outfit from the men's running apparel. And if you want a head-to-toe matching look, check out the Pulse Collection.
